Wonderful Chilled Holiday surrounded with a lush green oasis

We had a lovely relaxing stay at Na Balam Hotel. The atmosphere was very chilled, staff was very helpful. The pools was we looked forward to each day. The breakfast was included and it was delicious with alot of variety.

We were not allowed to throw toilet paper in the toilet so it had to go into the bin. So not ideal due to potential of smell in the room.

We had a fantastic stay at this hotel.

The room was large and very clean. I like the natural shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and bar soap. The comforter on the room was not to thick and not too thin. The hotel landscape was green, lush, and clean. The swimming pool was big and clean. There was a front desk clerk there from 7am to 10pm and they were very helpful. They did speak English as well as Spanish. This hotel is walking distance to the beautiful clean beach. The breakfast was good. The beach bed lounge area was good. This hotel made you feel like you were staying in a tropical paradise.

This is me being picky and not a deal breaker for us staying here again, but the hotel room was not energy efficient because the roof was made of palm tree leaves. The roof was beautiful to look at, but not functional in my opinion. Obviously, they are not going to replace the roof, so this is just an observation. There were not bugs inside, so that was not a problem. There was only one a/c unit and because the ceiling was not stucco, the one a/c unit struggled to cool off the room when the sun was out. Plus, they want you to turn off the a/c when you leave, so it took a while for the room to cool off. At night, the a/c did fine. Because the landscape is lush with plants, there are mosquitos. Take mosquito repellent like Off or Cutter with you. I did not take any, so we got bit up. They do sell some in the pharmacies, so there is an option to buy some. Also, when the housekeeper cleans the room, they leave the sliding door open, so mosquitos would get in.

Perfect location and setting!

The hotel grounds were lovely- the pool and hot tub were in a serene setting, quiet and peaceful. The location on Playa Norte was ideal- in our opinion, the best part of the beach. Na Balam is within easy walking distance to Hidalgo St. and many fabulous restaurants.

Everything was as expected. We were not looking for a luxury resort, but instead a clean, spacious, and peaceful place in a great location.

Our new favorite tropical getaway

Excellent customer service from the housekeeping to reception. Melissa at front desk is superb, very professional and helped us iron out a booking issue with her manager in the best way possible. Na Balam is definitely good value for money - it may not be the newest and have the most modern of amenities but it is in best location in Playa Norte steps away from the nicest beach on the island with a secluded tropical feel. Also close walking distance to restaurants in Hidalgo and street food. Property grounds is well maintained and is quite lush. Hot tub being not-super-hot is a non issue - we preferred it that way and was a good way to end a beach day. Staff at OceanVs restaurant where breakfast is offered was also warm and friendly - kudos to Nicholas and the rest of the morning crew. We stayed 6 nights and enjoyed the food and thought it was enough variety for our family of 5. Love the guaranteed reserved bed. Option for walk-in Yoga and massage within hotel complex is great. We will definitely stay here again - it was a good island vacation spot!

A few small additions would really give it a little extra charm. An electric kettle/ coffee maker (even in OceanVs has good coffee), a hammock (like in their sister hotel Casa Jaguar ), a jute rug on the tile floor etc, a retractable clothesline in the bath .. all minor but just a few suggestions!

Very Good

Great location On the North Beach. I enjoyed the heavily landscaped "jungle" the hotel is tucked away in which made it very quiet considering the proximity of the road! A quick minute walk THROUGH Oceans Beach Club to the playa which went out very far at knee to waist high water, crystal clear blue! The " Breakfast Included" menu was limited to Na Balam guests but it was soooooo well prepared, that we never minded a bit! Actually some of the best "free" breakfasts I have had in Mexico. An added perc was the yoga classes that we thoroughly enjoyed. Would definitely recommend Na Balam.

Well, WE DID go on Easter/Spring Break and because the beach is shallow at the North End, It was VERY FAMILY FRIENDLY. ( lots of kids ) Also, I don't know if ALL of the rooms have the option of an "adjoining room" for families, but we stayed in #16 and could hear the neighbor's voices all too well. Not a deal breaker, just something to take note of.

Good value for money at playa Norte

The location was cool - it felt like a little jungle. There was always someone taking care of the facility. The beach towels and beach beds in perfect location were an amazing add on. The way to the beach was super quick. The cooperation with the neighboring hotel was great- you could enjoy a wonderful breakfast right at the beach terrace. Most restaurants, bars and attractions in walking distance.

The room Interieur was basic and the rooms were quite dark.

Location. Very close to Playa Norte. Walking distance to shops and restaurants. The staff was great. They even helped us get a doctor when we needed one.

The beds are very hard and the lighting in the room is very dim. The hot tub isn't really hot

A nice nature filled boutique hotel, with plain rooms, close to the beach and amenities, however, pictures did not match

The location of the property is exceptional. It’s extremely close to the beach, shops, yoga classes and nightlife. Although, be aware if you read a description that says it’s on a beachfront, it’s not. You walk out of the hotel to get to the beach, but it’s less than a five minute walk. The breakfast included is delicious, they provide nice toiletries, it’s clean and the surrounding garden is gorgeous, but be prepared with bug spray.

The pictures advertised on Booking.com are drastically different to the room you receive, which was very disappointing. For example, the rooms are much darker in person, none of the terraces even nearly match the pictures and the furniture and room itself is noticeably tired and in need of refreshing. When I raised the disparity at reception they seemed surprised, which I felt was disingenuous. Honestly, the room was fine if that’s what you were expecting, but I felt hard done by for paying $180 during off season and not receiving anything close to what we anticipated. It’s false advertising. Also, there are no tea/coffee making facilities which you would expect for the high price you pay per night. The double beds are queen size, so quite small.

Excellent location , cleaners and receptionists were awesome they helped us with everything

One day there was rain , and they didn’t set all the beach mattresses out , so we had to go to the ones that were set, the waiter told us that it was ok and we can use them , an hour pass by and the guy with the radio came an told us we had to move because those beach mattresses were for the guests, we told him we were guests and then he proceeded to tell us they pay 600 dls to sit there so , we had to move anyway to the other mattresses (that weren’t set ) we just felt bad

High Expectations Met

It was the perfect atmosphere for a relaxing beach vacation. The quietness and greenery of the property was exactly what I was looking for in a restorative trip. The hotel room was spacious. The staff was great. We sent our time by the ocean, although the pool looked lovely. The breakfast was a pleasant bonus. I would stay again.

The beds were a bit firm for my mother. The pillows weren't plump enough for me; next time I'll bring my own pillow.
